This 5 Ingredient Homemade Italian Bread is so simple to make and is about as close as you’ll get to that bakery style bread you love from the supermarket. It’s soft and chewy, so delicious. I use the stand mixer to help with some of the heavy lifting, requiring just a few minutes of hand kneading. Then you let it rise and form into loaves. Slice and serve warm with your favorite vegan margarine. Let me show you how to make it.

Ingredients needed to make this recipe
To make this recipe, you’ll need:
- Warm Water (about 104 to 115 degrees)
- Active Dry Yeast
- Granulated Sugar
- Salt
- All Purpose Flour

How to make 5 Ingredient Homemade Italian Bread
The first thing you’ll need to do is place the warm (not hot) water into the bowl of your stand mixer. Add the yeast and a pinch of your sugar. Give it quick stir and allow it to proof, or activate, for 10 minutes. It should bubble like this.

Beat on medium speed for about 3 minutes or until soft and pillowy.

The dough may look ready, but we have more work to do.
On your lightly floured board, knead the dough by hand for about 6 minutes. It will be smooth and elastic.

See the difference?

Place it into a bowl with a bit of oil, tossing it to coat and cover with a towel. Place it in a warm place for about an hour. It should double in size and look like this.

Form into loaves, cover and allow to rise another 30 minutes.

Right before baking, using a sharp knife, score the bread. This help ensure even baking.
Bake at 400 degrees for about 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Allow to cool before slicing.

I love it warm with some vegan margarine. It’s SO good! I hope you give it a try.
